Bloomington James C. Head, 54, of Bloomington, died at 5:20 pm on Sunday, November 30, 2003 at Fontainbleu Nursing Home in Bloomington.
Born August 21, 1949 in Louisville, KY, he was the son of Preston Head and Kathleen (Cazee) England. He was a carpenter and of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include two sons, Brian Head of Bedford and Jerry Head of Florida; his mother, Kathleen England of Bedford; one sister, Prestina Mynatt of Springville; three daughters, Stephanie and Teresea Head both of Bedford and Yolanda Head of Salem and one brother, Rick Head of Scottsburg.
The body will be cremated. No calling hours or services are scheduled. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Bedford-Betty H. Robbins, 75, of Breckenridge Road, Bedford, passed away suddenly at 8:03 A.M. Saturday, November 29th at Bloomington Hospital.
Born on July 17, 1928 in Lawrence County, IN she was the daughter of John DePierre and Catherine (Dillman) DePierre. Mrs. Robbins was a homemaker and co-owner of Bedford Limestone Suppliers, Inc. She was a member of the Fayetteville Baptist Church and a lifetime member of Omega Nu Tau Epsilon Chapter. She married Robert E. Robbins on May 21, 1949 and he passed away on May 17, 2002.
A very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother she is survived by: three sons: Daniel J. Robbins and his wife, Carol J.; Dale A. Robbins and his wife, Alice L. and Richard D. Robbins and his wife, Janice N. all of Bedford, IN; one daughter: Denise A. Brock and her husband, Scott D. of Bedford, IN; seven grandchildren: Angela M. Robbins Sutton, Daniel C. Robbins, Jeremy D. Robbins, Lorie M. Emmons, Jamie L. Robbins, Molly K. Brock and Kyle R. Robbins; three great grandchildren: Kathryn D.; Dakoda Scott and Ellie Jo; two brothers: John DePierre and Donnie DePierre both of Colorado; two sisters: Joan Wray of Bedford, IN and Delena Turner of TN. Mrs. Robbins was preceded in death by her parents; husband and one brother: Stephen DePierre.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 2nd from the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Kenny Walden officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Day & Carter Mortuary on Monday, December 1st from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until service time.

Huron Pearl V. Scales of Huron, IN, formerly of Wheatland, IN died at 4:35 am on Thursday, November 27, 2003 at the Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington.
Born in Bristol, Tennessee, she was the daughter of James and Amanda Louise (Perkins) Cook. She first married Henry Hubry. She later married Ralph E. Scales in 1944 and he died in November 1979. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church/Bryantsville Church of Christ.
Survivors include one daughter, Katy Abel of Huron, IN, one granddaughter, Nicole McNamara and one great grandson, Seamus McNamara both of Massachusetts; one great nephew, David Wampler and his wife, Sandra of Bedford; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one daughter, Fronia Hubry; six sisters, Rose Wampler, Kathleen Davis-Evans, Margaret Fisher-Spruge, Fronia Coleman-Watkins, Callie Cook and Lillie Cook; six brothers, Robert S. Cook, Mack H. Cook, Fred L. Cook, Elbert Cook and two in infancy. She was the last of thirteen children.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 30th at the Huron Cemetery with Bro. Ken Wilson officiating. No calling hours are scheduled. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Springville Lushen E. Kidd, 67, of 1775 Popcorn Road, Springville, died on Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at his residence.
Born March 30, 1936 in Kentucky, he was the son of Walter and Lizzie (Jones) Kidd. He married Donna Beals on November 8, 1974 and she survives. He retired from Indiana Limestone Co. in Oolitic and was a member of the Grace Baptist Church of Springville.
Surviving with his wife, Donna are one son, Danny Kidd of Bloomington; one daughter, Janet Robinson of Bedford; three step-sons, Wendell Kidd and Troy Harris both of Spencer and Bleven Harris of English, IN; two step-daughters, Rita Atwood of English and Ava Hall of Bedford; five grandchildren, Missy Powell of Virginia, Gary Robinson of California, Allen Robinson of Bedford, Shandell and Haven Roll of Mitchell; ten step-grandchildren, Russell and Casey Atwood, Chuck Hall all of English, Troy and Carrie Harris of Spencer, Mark and Kevin North of Bloomington, Joseph, Jonathon and Elizabeth Kidd all of Spencer; six great grandchildren, Sierra, Robert, Michael and Donald Buskirk all of Virginia, Kaitlin Robinson of California, Matthew Kidd of Bloomington; four sisters, Ora, Esme, Cloe and Lilly; four brothers, Benjamin, Edgar, Hulen and Chester. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Myra Roll, one grandson, Randy Kidd, six brothers and two sisters.

Springville Gerald B. Baker, 70, of 1001 Greer Lane, Springville, IN, died at 1:45 pm on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at Dunn Memorial Hospital following a two and one half year illness.
Born February 4, 1933 in Lawrence County, he was the son of Dolphus and Maude Lorena (Hackler) Baker. He married Marilyn Joyce Lake on November 23, 1956 and she survives. He was a certified welder and layout man for Indiana Steel and Engineering Co. retiring in 1998. He had also been employed by Indiana Limestone Co. and had taught a welding class at the Vocational School in Bedford. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War and was a member of the Gillen Post #33 American Legion, Lawrence Co. Farm Bureau and Lawrence Co. Fair Board. He was a member of the Hilltop Pentecostal Church in Avoca and a 4-H leader for fifteen years.
Surviving with his wife, Marilyn, are one daughter, Sherry Lynn Baker-Rayhill of Mitchell; two sons, Mark Kevin Baker and his wife, Kim and Jon Stevin Baker and his wife, Brenda all of Springville; nine grandchildren, Crystal, Cristen, Cory, Craig and Christanna Rayhill all of Mitchell, Brett Baker, Jamie Baker-Phillips and Stacy Baker all of Springville and Stephanie Baker of Indianapolis; one great granddaughter, Lauren Cheyenne Nobles of Springville; two step-grandchildren, Ronnie Patton, Jr. and Brandi Morris; one step great granddaughter, Haley Patton; one brother, Harold Baker and his wife, Pauline of Bedford and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 29th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Bill Johnson officiating. Bedford Edna H. Morron, 84, of 49 Hilltopper Lane, Bedford, died at 10:46 pm on Sunday, November 23, 2003 at the Bedford Regional Medical Center.
Born February 3, 1919 in Clay County, KY, she was the daughter of General and Myrtle (Brown) Hale. She married Elza Morron on April 7, 1938 and he died September 29, 1974. She was a retired Superintendent in halls of residence at Indiana University in Bloomington and a member of Hilltop Pentecostal Church in Avoca.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Deckard and her husband James and Linda Crulo and her husband Larry all of Bedford; one son, Phillip Morron and his wife, Deborah of Bedford; eight granddaughters, Debra Deckard, Sherry Porter, Pammy Ryan, Lisa Sego, Kelly Conolty, Stephanie Morron all of Bedford and Tammy Rumell of Martinsville and Tonya Williams of Mitchell; one grandson, Mark Morron of Bedford; two sisters, Margie Taylor and Lois Sims Page both of Indianapolis; two brothers, General Hale, Jr. of Indianapolis and Dennis C. Hale of Harrodsburg; sixteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son and one grandson in infancy; four sisters, Joea Porter, Eula Ryan, Marie Manion, and Eunice in infancy; two brothers, Eugene C. Hale and Carl Hale.

Leesville George Washington Johnson, 85, of Leesville, died at 1:51 am on Thursday, November 20, 2003 at his residence.
Born September 23, 1918 in Cow Creek, KY, he was the son of Granville Pearle and Fairendia (Spencer) Johnson. He was married to Eliza Bea Noble for sixty-five years and she survives. George was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a retired carpenter and farmer. He was a founding member and former chairman of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Leesville.
Surviving with his wife, Eliza, are five sons, Raymond Johnson and his wife, Martha, Willard Johnson and his wife, Connie all of Bedford, Frank Johnson and his wife, Mary of Otwell, IN, Richard Johnson and his wife, Janet of Norman, IN and Rev. Springville Matthew James Jamie Manion, 31, of 1837 State Road 54 West, Springville, IN, died November 18, 2003 at his residence.
Born July 5, 1972 in Greene County, he was the son of Mike and Brenda (Groomer) Manion. He was employed at Visteon in Bedford. He graduated from BNL in 1990 and attended Vincennes University where he studied law enforcement. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include his father, Mike Manion of Bedford; his mother and step-father, Brenda and Philip Craig of Bedford; two brothers, Mark Manion and his wife, Kris, of Vincennes and Michael Manion of Bedford; one sister, Marsha Nelson and her husband, Lee, of Avoca; three half-brothers, Eric Manion, Michael Manion, II and Seth Manion all of Owensburg; maternal grandfather, Everett Groomer of Bloomfield; three nieces, Brittany, Mercedes and Brianna Manion all of Avoca; two nephews, Brandon and Brady Manion both of Avoca. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Dortha Groomer; Aunt Donna Workman and paternal grandparents, Harold and Marie Manion.

Bedford-Fredrick H. (Red) Krodel, 69, of Ludlow Drive, Bedford and formerly of Loogootee, IN, passed away at 1:27 A.M. Saturday, November 15, 2003 at Bloomington Hospital.
Born on August 18, 1934, he was the son of Henry J. Krodel and Lela Floe (Burress). He was retired from Indiana Limestone and attended the Faith Mission Church. He married Barbara (Taylor) Krodel on October 22, 1976 and she survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife Barbara, of Bedford is his previous wife: LaVonda Terrell of Clute, TX and their children: Marilyn (Krodel) Prescott and her husband, Robert of Richwood, TX; Anthony Krodel of Lake Jackson, TX and Joseph Krodel of Shoals; four step children: Connie Roll; Bonnie Hirtz and her husband, John; Reva Albertson all of Bedford and Jackie Taylor of Michigan; nine grandchildren: Misty, Cody, Michael, Aaron, Sean, Danny, Chasity, Amanda and Luke; six step-grandchildren: Nathan, Crystal, Shannon, Melanie, Kristin and Jacklyn and thirteen great grandchildren. 2 brothers: Roger Krodel and his wife, Sally of Redding, CA and James Krodel of Denver, CO; and 1 sister: Imogene Thompson and her husband, Brayton of Edinburgh, IN. and several nieces and nephews Preceded in death by his parents; 1 step-grandson; sister-in-law: Charlene Krodel and son-in-law: Wendell Roll.

Bedford Michael Ralph Creech, 50, of 146 Covey Lane, Bedford, died at 8:10 am on November 13, 2003 in Belleville, IL, where he was working.
He was born November 5, 1953 in Dayton, OH. He married Carol Covey on January 19, 1991 and she survives. He was an electrical lineman for Miller Construction Co.
Surviving with his wife, Carol are one step-daughter, Alaina Roberts at home; mother and step-father, Joyce and Jack Bitner of Ellettsville; father, Amos Creech of Stanton, KY; one sister, Diana Eads and her husband, Steve of Bloomington; one brother, Rex Vint of Bloomington; nieces, nephews and three step-brothers.

Bedford Betty Lou Fortney, 82, of Bedford, died at 6:45 am on Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at Westview Manor in Bedford.
Born September 21, 1921 in Kirksville, MO; the daughter of: Thomas D. and Ola (Baldridge) Johnson. Mrs. Fortney lived in Maxell, Iowa as a child and moved to Kirksville in 1934. On March 17, 1940 she married Roy L. Fortney and he preceded her in death on March 21, 1999. Mrs. Fortney was the owner of Mode O Day Dress Shop from 1957 to 1984. A member of Chapter 4 White Shrine, she was a Worthy Priestess in 1964; a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #184 where she was a Worthy Matron in 1968 and served as District Deputy Grand Matron from 1977 to 1978 and held the office of Marshall for fourteen years. She was the President of El Kadir Shrine Jewels in 1986 and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Janet Jackson and her husband, Jerry of Bedford; one daughter-in-law: Joyce Fortney of Harrisonville, MO; grandchildren, Jeff Jackson of Carmel, IN, Julie Thomas of Indianapolis, Jason Jackson of Bloomington, Lisa (Fortney) Allen of New London, MO, Mariann Myres and Laura Shirley both of Lees Summit, MO; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Lee (Sonny) Johnson of Baxter, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and one son: Larry L. Fortney who died April 23, 2003.

Madison Kenneth (Pat) Leroy Bailey, 82, a resident of the Madison State Hospital, formerly of Bedford, died at 7:20 am on Tuesday, November 11, 2003 in Madison, IN.
Born October 23, 1921 in Heltonville, IN, he was the son of Lloyd Tolbert and Edith (Kindred) Bailey. He was a graduate of Heltonville High School. He was formerly employed at Central Foundry Div. of GM in Bedford and was a member of Mundell Christian Church.
Survivors include two brothers, Leonard and Robert Bailey both of Bedford; two sisters, Jeanette Norman and her husband, Morris and Janice Baker and her husband, Billy Don all of Bedford; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Fred and Wilmer Bailey and two sisters, Geneva Taylor and Juanita Terrell.

Bedford Mary Alice McCart, 88, a resident of Hospitality House, formerly of 411 R Street, Bedford went home to glory land last night.
Born August 19, 1915 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Burt and Ella (Hubbard) Wright. She married Lowell McCart on March 7, 1937 and he passed away in 2000. She was a homemaker and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of the Tunnelton United Methodist Church and president of the Oolitic T.O.P.S. Club for twenty-five years.
Survivors include one son, Larry McCart and his wife, Judith of Bedford; two granddaughters, Tracy Lee and her husband, David and Terri Kimbley and her husband, Steve, all of Bedford; two grandsons, Scott McCart and his wife, Shalon of Greenwood and David McCart and his wife, Meleah of Bedford; four great grandchildren, Patrick and Andrea Lee of Bedford and Rebekah and Reece McCart of Greenwood; one sister, Ina Wright of Bedford; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, William, Robert, Marvin and Max (in infancy); three sisters, Bonnie Kruchten, Alta Mae Hickman and Gretel (in infancy).

Born March 22, 1918 in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Leslie A. and Rinda F. (Bowman) Henderson. She married Murray T. Hill on August 13, 1940 and he died November 13, 1997. She was a homemaker and operated Als Sandwich Shop in Bedford along with her husband in the 1940s. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was baptized in the Church of God in Bedford.
Survivors include two daughters, Catherine Petty and Linda King both of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren, Susan Petty, Candace Petty, Cindy Vankempen, Lora Vankempen, Mark Vankempen, Richard Vankempen and Skylar King. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, Catherine Sherrill, Rowena Smith and Belva Roberts and one brother, Leslie Henderson, Jr.

Bedford Mildred Ann Conrad, 83, a resident of the Hospitality House formerly of Rocky Creek East in Bedford died at 5:00 am on Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at the Hospitality House.
Born February 1, 1920 in Schuyler, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Charles and Sophia (Otradovsky) Mastny. She married Robert B. Conrad on March 28, 1946 and he died February 22, 1981. She was a secretary, homemaker and a member of the Episcopal faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Jane Stutes and her husband, Paul of Bedford; one son, Charles Conrad of Virginia Beach, VA; two grandchildren, Julie Stutes of Bedford and Matthew Conrad of Virginia Beach, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Charles and Emerson Mastny.

Shoals Frank D. Hallett, Sr., 67, of R 3 Shoals, died November 3, 2003 in Oolitic.
Born May 30, 1935 in Montana, he was the son of George and Myrtle (Knight) Hallett. He graduated from Rocky Mountain College in 1961 in Billings, Montana with a degree in industrial arts. He was a teacher for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War and was involved in the evacuation of Formosa. He was discharged in 1956. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge #2442 of Shoals, Moose Lodge and the American Legion. His hobbies were woodworking and fishing.
Survivors include five sons, Ted and Lee Hallett both of Arizona, Lynn and Paul Hallett both of Iowa and Frank Hallett, Jr. of Shoals; one sister, Mary Smith of Montana, one brother, Lloyd Hallett of Texas; eighteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert Hallett and one son, David Hallett.

Kinder - Ruby E. Kinder of Williams, IN, died Tuesday, October 28, 2003, at the Hospitality House. Born on November 6, 1916, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Ivy (Williams) Etchison. She married Robert L. Kinder on June 29, 1959, and he survives.
Surviving with her husband are one step-daughter, Stella Kay Thimling of Bedford, IN; two step-sons, Wallace Keith Kinder of Bloomington, IN, and Terry Leon Kinder of Omaha, NE; three sisters: Lucille Lynch of Williams, IN, Lorene Mitchell of Oolitic, IN, and Marsha Tolbert of Mitchell, IN; and several step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Marie Mundy, Luella Craig, and Louise Terrell.
She retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane, and had been employed by Ted Jones, Dr. Hammel, and Wilking & Combs Agency. She attended Williams Church of Christ.

Stotts - Cecil E. Stotts of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, October 26, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident in Lawrence County. Born on June 27, 1941, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Franklin and Clotha Fern (Cassida) Stotts. He married Roberta K. George in Bedford in 1967, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are one son, Troy Eugene Stotts of Williams, IN; one uncle, one niece, and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Michelle Dian Stotts in 1982; one brother, Michael Stotts; and one sister-in-law, Bonnie Lee Stotts.
He was retired from GM Powertrain and was a 1960 graduate of Bedford High School. He was a member of Charity Chapel, where he had served as a past board member.

Bedford, Harriet A. Mitchell, 79, of 8365 State Road 158 in Bedford, IN, died at 11:05 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2003, at the Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on December 15, 1923 in Terre Haute, IN, she was the daughter of T. Earl and Berniece (Harvey) Drake. She married Warren Mitchell on November 29, 1942, and he survives.
She was a homemaker and a teller for Stone City Bank plus a switchboard operator for Bedford Regional Medical Center and worked in research for Crane. She was a 50 year member of the Easter Star where she was a past District Deputy, Worthy Matron and Grand Representative to Kentucky. She was also an adult volunteer leader for 4-H.
Surviving with the husband of Bedford, are one son: Tom Mitchell of Sommerset, IN; three daughters: Kathy Myers of Oregonia, OH, Jean Kozak of Beltsville, MD, Pat Gramling of Ashley, IN; six grandchildren: Dennis and Brad Mitchell, Lorraine Myers, Barney, Katie and Lizzie Gramling; two brothers: John and Bob Drake; two sisters: Virginia Rockwood and Nancy Moore all of Terre Haute, IN.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28th, from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Merle Craig officiating.

Tovey - William Harvey Tovey of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, October 24, 2003, at his residence. He was born on January 1, 1924.
Surviving are his wife, Pattie Tovey of Bedford, IN; one daughter Susan McKnight Newton of Terre Haute, IN; one son, Col. Mark E. McKnight of Fort Leavenworth, KS; two brother, George Tovey of North Carolina and John Tovey of Florida; and six grandchildren.
He retired from the Bedford Fire Dept. in 1980, having served 16 years as fire chief, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Services for William Tovey will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 31st, at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33. Jones - Jimmie W. Jones, Jr., of Bedford, IN, died Friday, October 24, 2003, from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Born on October 10, 1978, in in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Jimmie W. and Judy (Crum) Jones.
Surviving are his father and step-mother, Jimmie W. and Susie Jones of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Mary Staggs and Peggy Stines, both of Bedford, IN, and Valerie Powers of Alexandria, IN; his maternal grandmother, Peggy Crum of Bedford, IN; his aunt, Cheryl Crum of Bedford, IN, with whom he lived; uncles and aunts: Tommy and Suzie Jones and Lonnie and Barbara Jones, all of Bedford, IN, Eddie Jones and Ricky and Mona Jones all of Springville, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother; two grandfathers, Walter Crum and Oscar Jones; and one grandmother, Helen Jones.
He was employed as a waiter at Red Lobster Restaurant in Bloomington. He was of Pentecostal faith.

Moore - Merle E. Moore, Jr., of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, October 23, 2003, at his residence. Born on March 27, 1948, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Merle, Sr, and Mildred (Hall) Moore. He married Kathy S. Egan on February 20, 1968, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are are his mother, Mildred Moore; two daughters, Angela Crane of Springville, IN, and Melissa Moore of Bedford, IN; two sons, Merle G. Moore of Kirksville, IN, and Matthew Moore of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Larry Moore of Beulah, KY, and Tony Moore of Spencer, IN; one half-brother, Robert Hall of Everett, WA; and eight grandchildren: Jay Moore of Bloomington, IN, Jeremiah Moore, Brandon Moore, Kelsea Moore, Samantha Koska, all of Bedford, IN, Sierra Crane and Bradley Crane, both of Springville, IN, and Ashly Moore of Kirksville, IN. He was preceded in death by his father, Merle Moore, Sr.
He was a self-employed computer programmer and consultant for twelve years. He was formerly empl9yed at Thomson Consumer Electronics in Marion, IN, where he received the managerial award for work performance. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 245 in Ellettsville and the National Woodworkers Association.

Blake of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Georgette M. Davis of Bedford, IN, and Ann Dotts of Mitchell, IN; three brothers: Guy Blake of Mitchell, IN, Henry Blake of Oolitic, IN, and Joe Blake of Sparksville, IN; and five grandchildren.

Martin - Brandon Allen Martin of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, October 16, 2003, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on January 7, 1988, he was the son of Rex and Ruth (Moore) Martin.
Surviving are his parents of Bedford, IN; four aunts: Carolyn Pruitt and her husband, Jerry, of Columbus, IN, Judy Deckard and her husband, Gary, of Ohio, Janet Bowling and her husband, Mike, of North Vernon, IN, and Elizabeth Mullis and her husband, David, of Bedford, IN; three uncles, Ed Moore and his wife, Patsy, and John M. Moore, all of Bedford, IN, and Richard Martin and his wife, Jennifer, of Florida; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, William Andrew Frye; paternal grandparents, Emma and Freeman Martin; and maternal grandparents, Harold and Mary Jane Moore.
He was associated with the Free Methodist Church, a participant of Special Olympics, having won three Gold Medals and the Director's Award for Exceptional Character. He had just returned from an Indiana Wish Foundation vacation to Disney World in Orland, FL.

Wade - John E. Wade of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, October 16, 2003, at his residence. Born on February 25, 1945, in Martin County, IN, he was the son of Benjamin and Effie (Davis) Wade. He married Patricia Fish on May 1, 1964, and she died August 4, 1999.
Surviving are one son, Tim Wade of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Lora Kollmeyer of Odon, IN; three brothers: George Wade of Shoals, IN, William Wade of Gosport, IN, and Paul E. Wade of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Marie Siedle of Bloomington, IN, Betty Ferguson of Odon, IN, and Joan Edwards of Bedford, IN; three grandchildren, and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Floyd, Gordon, and Benny Wade; and one sister, Dorothy Wade.
He was a 1963 graduate of Odon High School and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was employed as housekeeping supervisor at Dunn Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Bedford Boat and Sportsman's Club and the Beulah AME Church in Washington, IN.

Edwards - Robert W. Edwards of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on October 23, 1935, in Orleans, IN, he was the son of Robert E. and Rachel (Jenkins) Edwards. He married Wanda Terry on June 3, 1955, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Ada Reynolds and her husband, Danny, of Mitchell, IN, and Carol Jack of Bloomington, IN; her mother, Rachel Edwards of Orleans, IN; one brother, Lee Edwards of Mitchell, IN; three sisters: Sue Edwards and Tommy Knight, both of Orleans, IN, and Brenda Burns of Mitchell, IN; and three grandchildren: Laura Powell of Greenwood, IN, Aaron Powell of Terre Haute, IN; and David Jack of Bloomington, IN.
He was a supervisory custodian and bus driver for Mitchell Community Schools and a 1954 graduate of Orleans High School. He was the founder of the Clothe A Child project in Mitchell, a former member of the Mitchell JayCees, and a member of Tulip Street Christian Church.

Horner - Donovan L. Horner of Tunnelton, IN, died Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at his residence. Born on June 4, 1922, in Tunnelton, IN, he was the son of Tom and Frieda (Rimkey) Horner. He married Gladys Lemons on March 15, 1957, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are one brother, Jim Horner of Tunnelton, IN; and one sister, Mary Romolo of Trenton, NJ. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Robert Horner (in infancy), Thomas Laverne Horner, and Jack Horner.
He retired as a truck driver for General Motors, with 30 years of service, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a staff sergeant during WW II. He was a member of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33 of Bedford and the V.F.W. of Oolitic.

Nadeau - Ronald Nadeau, Sr. of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, October 14, 2003, in Scottsburg. Born on April 28, 1945, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Lawrence Albert and Ruth (Fish) Nadeau.

He was employed at Visteon and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, V.F.W., the American Legion Post of Salem, and was of the Baptist faith.

Childress of LaCenter, KY; four grandsons, Monty Joe Childress and family of LaCenter, KY, Norris Gene Reynolds and his wife of Fayetteville, IN, Bradley Joseph Simmons and Michael McPike Simmons, both of Bedford, IN; three granddaughters: Cathy Ann Terrell and family of Barlow, KY, Loretta Kay Denny and family of Fayetteville, IN, and Jenny Lynn Reynolds and family of Oolitic; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Sondra Ann Childress and Sue Ellen McPike; five sisters: Lula Henson, Marie Burton, Juanita Phillips, Pauline Moore, and Alma Delpha; and two brothers, Elbert A. She was a homemaker and was employed briefly by RCA, Reliance Manufacturing Co., and J. C. Penney. She was a member of the Oolitic Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Lydia Circle. She was a Pink Lady Volunteer at Dunn Memorial Hospital and a former member of the Order of the Easter Star.

Allen - Wilma F. Allen of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, October 12, 2003, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born October 15, 1913, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Hervie A. and Mammie (Dixon) Wicker. She married Ray B. Allen on February 24, 1933, and he died October 9, 1989.
Surviving are one son, Dwight Allen of Indianapolis; one daughter, Geneva Hilleke of Seymour, IN; nine grandchildren: Sarah Sweeney of Brownstown, IN, Barbara Stuckwish of Seymour, IN, Diane Tormoehlen of Brownstown, IN, Joseph Hilleke of Noblesville, IN, Mary Anderes of Seymour, IN, Margaret Tormoehlen of Brownstown, IN, Teresa Goecker of Seymour, IN, Jeff Allen of Brownstown, IN, and Lisa Clark of Indianapolis; twenty-on great-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She had been employed as a cook at Purdue University for 20 years and was a 1932 graduate of Tunnelton High School. She was a member of Fairview Community Church, a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star iin Leesville, and the auxiliary of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Porter - Virginia L. Porter of Mitchell, IN, formerly of Ary, KY, died Saturday, October 11, 2003, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on December 31, 1924, in Hinsdale, IL, she was the daughter of Walter J. and Ruth G. (Lagergren) Larson. She married Jesse Porter, Sr. on November 28, 1969, and he died January 23, 1993.
Surviving are stepdaughters: Carol Lee Fisher and her husband, Ellis, of Mitchell, IN, Nellie Chastain and her husband, Butch, of Mitchell; step-sons, Jesse Porter, Jr. and wife, Connie, of Lima, OH, Ralph Porter, Sr. and his wife, Paula, of Beaver Dam, KY; one foster sister, Ellen Stortz of Chicago, IL; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.
She was a nurse, missionary, and a member of the Woodville Baptist Church.

Stroud - Lavere Dean Stroud of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, October 11, 2003, at his residence. Born February 11, 1932, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Walter and Inez (Louden) Stroud. He married Shirley Helmbrecht on November 10, 1956, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are his parents, Walter and Inez Stroud of Shoals, IN; two sons, Scott Stroud and his wife, Laura, of Bedford, IN, and David Stroud of Raleigh, NC; one daughter, Sherri Stroud of Mitchell, IN; three brothers: Russell Stroud of Shoals, IN, Rex Stroud of Williams, IN, and William Stroud of Greenwood, IN; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Jami Stroud, both of Bedford, IN; He was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Zumhingst.
He retired from Hooks Pharmacy in Bedford as a stock supervisor and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church and the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Armstrong - Harriet J. Armstrong of Springville, IN, died Friday, October 10, 2003, at Bell Trace Health and Living Center in Bloomington, IN; Born on March 16, 1934, in Streator, IL, she was the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Clark) Crum. She married Virgil Armstrong on October 17, 1954, in Streator, IL, and he survives.
Surviving with her husband are one son, Joseph Armstrong and his wife, Sheri, of Muncie, IN; one daughter, Karen Armstrong and her fiance, Larry White, of Springville, IN; four granddaughters: Arika, Kaylin, and Alexis Armstrong, all of Muncie, IN, and Sarah Armstrong of Springville, IN; and one grandson, Brian White of Bloomfield. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a homemaker and was part owner of Harvi Hill Farms, and had worked with the Community Action Program in Bloomington. She was a member of Bethel Christian Church, Indiana Christmas and Mid-America Tree Growers Association.

Bray - Ruby M. Bray of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on October 18, 1944, in Greene County, IN, she was the daughter of Ward and Mary (Baker) Harp. She married LeRoy D. Bray on October 31, 1960, and he died February 6, 1991.
Surviving are one son, Thomas Bray and his wife, Laura, of Bloomington, IN; three daughters: Robin Robbins and her husband, Kenny, of Williams, IN, Lisa Bray of Mitchell, IN, and Leslie Lintz and her husband, Rick, of Bedford, IN; two brothers, George Harp and his wife, Jane, and Allen Harp and his wife, Sara; one sister, Marie Medley and her husband Bill; and eleven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She was a certified nurse assistant for the Hospitality House and was a member of the New Union Christian Church.

Ball - Faye Ball of Mitchell, IN, formerly of Huron, IN, died Monday, October 6, 2003, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on March 28, 1899, in Montpelier, OH, she was the daughter of Fred and Fanny Lewis. She married Dewey Ball and he died on May 28, 1979.
Surviving are one daughter, Naomi Landreth and her husband, Bob, of Mitchell, IN; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Robert D. Ball; and one brother, Frank Lewis.

Hunsucker - A. Wilson Hunsucker of Bedford, IN, died Monday, October 6, 2003, at his residence. Born on January 6, 1926, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Morris A. and Zora (Chapman) Hunsucker. He married Barbara J. Watts on October 23, 1947, and she died on November 15, 2001.
Surviving are one son, Devin L. Hunsucker and his wife, Barbara, of Evansville, IN; one daughter, Cathy J. Burns and her husband, Charles, of Linton, IN; one sister, Minerva Hunsucker of Bedford, IN; four grandchildren, Todd Hunsucker of Waterford, WI, Keri Key of Galveston, IN, Matthew Burns of Milan, Italy, and Elizabeth Brown of St. John's, MI; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; one sister, Delpha Mills; and three brothers, William A., John, and Olin Hunsucker.
He was a salesman for M&F Vending, retiring in 1988 with more than 30 years of service, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was of Baptist faith and was a member and past commander of Cecil C. Martiin American Legion Post No. 250.

Kelley - Mary V. Kelley of Bedford, IN, died Friday, October 3, 2003, at White River Lodge. Born on November 11, 1912, in in Jackson County, IN, she was the daughter of Stanley and Goldie (Henderson) Clark. She married Harlon Kelley on August 25, 1928, and he died on August 7, 1990.
Surviving are three sons: William Kelley and his wife, Paloma, of Bloomington, IN, Stanley Kelley and his wife, Georgia, of Springville, IN, and Jack D. Kelley and his wife, Renie, of Mitchell, IN; five daughters: Joan Wubben and her husband, Bob, of Springville, IN, Norma Mikels and her husband, Gene, and Beverly Fletcher and her husbad, Rev. Larry Fletcher, all of Springfield, MO; Vera York and Rebekah Goss, both of Bedford, IN; seventeen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, one sister, and four grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and a member of Life Tabernacle in Springville.

Fortner - Mildred Fortner of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, October 2, 2003, at the Hospitality House. Born on May 27, 1917, in Bono Township (Lawrence County), IN, she was the daughter of Kelly Lester and Pearl (Gordon) Smith. She married Arthur Denzil Fortner on March 15, 1941, and he survives.
Surviving with her husband are one daughter, Linda Diana Chastain and her husband, J. Keith, of Lakewood, CO; one son, Donald Eugene Fortner and his wife, Susan, of Elwood, IN; four grandchildren: Timothy Chastain, Kelly Chastain, Jason Fortner, and Laura Bubp; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Maude Granecki.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a 1935 graduate of Campbellsburg High School.

Geabes - Paul Stephen Geabes of Johnstown, CO, formerly of Bedford and Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, October 1, 2003, at North Shore Medical Center in Loveland, CO. Born on August 13, 1917, in Patricksburg, IN, he was the son of John and Emma (Spreen) Geabes. He married Mildren Tovey on January 16, 1941, in Lawrence County, IN, and she died on April 13, 1999.
Surviving are one son, Rick Geabes of Johnstown, CO; one brother, George Geabes of Seymour, IN; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother, Lee Geabes.
He was the retired owner of the Ideal Shoe and Sporting Goods Store, formerly in Bedford, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Air Corps, and the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He was a former chairman of the Lawrence County Red Cross, former assistant chairman of the Regional Red Cross Board of Louisville, a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Elks Lodge, Power Squadron, and and served ont he board of the Chamber of Commerce. He was a graduate of Bedford High School and a member of the First Christian Church of Mitchell and Moores Ridge Church of French Lick.

Melton - William Melton of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, October 1, 2003, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on July 28, 1923, in Glasgow, KY, he was the son of Thomas L. and Frances (Johnson) Melton. He married Annie Bell Riddle on December 16, 1942, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are three daughters: Mary Frances Terrell and her husband, Bill, Linda Hoppe and her husband, Danny, and Brenda Gilstrap, all of Mitchell, IN; one son, Jerry Melton ad his wife, Mary Lou, of Bedford, IN; one sister, Delia Perkins of Summer Shade, KY; two brothers, Lloyd Melton of Mitchell, IN, and Billy Melton of Louisville, KY; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Nellie Sue Slaten; and one sister, Mary Lizzie Pittman.
He retired from the City of Mitchell as street commissioner with 16 years of service and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II. He was a member of Mt Pisgiah Church in Bow, KY.

Irwin - Elsie J. Irwin of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, September 30, 2003, at Mitchell Manor Nursing & Rehab Center. Born on October 12, 1927, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of David and Silvia (Tincher) Jones. She married George Irwin in 1944, and he died November 29, 1985.
Surviving are four sons: Kenneth, Michael, and Donald Irwin, all of Mitchell, IN, and Danny Irwin of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Pamela Perez of Phoenix, AZ; three brothers: Delbert, Joe, and Johnny Jones, all of Mitchell, IN; four sisters: Roberta Tow and Mary Schultz, both of Bedford, IN, Thelma Denny and Betsy Stancombe, both of Mitchell, IN; ten grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Joyce Jones; and two brothers, Menlo and George Jones.
She was a retired employee of RCA in Bloomington.

He retired from Lehigh Cement Company, was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a 1960 graduate of Huron High School. Bevers - Russell Bevers of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, September 28, 2003, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on March 21, 1916, in Jackson County, IN, he was the son of John and Mary (Bevers) Bevers. He married Alice Botner and she died on April 3, 2002.
Surviving are one step-daughter, Gerri Basinger and her husband, Louis, of Bedford, IN; and three step-grandchildren: Michael, Mario, and Angie Basinger. He was preceded in death by his wife; three brothers: Curtis, Ralph, and Leland Bevers; and one sister, Sophia.
He had been employed in the stone quarries of Indiana Limestone Company.

McSoley - Kelly Lynn McSoley of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, September 28, 2003, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on September 11, 1964, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Gregory and Tommie (Glover) McSoley.
Surviving are her mother, Tommy McSoley of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Shannon Arnold of Bedford, IN, and Amy York of Ellettsville, IN; three nephews: Dylan McSoley, Ryan and Bryan Kimmel; and two nieces, Taylor McSoley and Abagail York. She was preceded in death by her father and her grandparents.

Barrett - Rose M. Barrett of Bedford, IN, died Friday, September 26, 2003, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on September 22, 1932, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Ila Earl and Geneva (Bennett) McBride. She married James Ralph Barrett.
Surviving are two sons, Jim Barrett and Tony Barrett, both of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Brenda Mills of Bedford, IN; two brothers, John McBride and Don McBride, both of Bedford, IN; one sister, Dorothy Hall of Bedford, IN; three granddaughters, two grandsons, and two great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by one sister, Vonda Ira.
She was retired and had formerly been employed at Sarkes Tarzian in Bloomington and Stone City Products. She was a member of Dive Christian Church.

Davis - Mabel Barnes Davis of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, September 24, 2003, at Westview Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born on October 5, 1905, in Williams, IN, she was the daughter of Alex and Minnie (Williams) Barnes. She married Lowell R. Davis on May 30, 1930, and he died on March 8, 1989.
Surviving are nieces and nephew Alberta Gaines of Elizabeth City, NC, Barbara Sullivan of Tallahassee, FL, Bonnie Thorpe of Madison, IN, Shelby James Barnes of Rockville, MD, Linda Tindal of Terre Haute, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Gladys Stapleton and Genevieve Boicourt; and two brothers, Ernest W. Barnes and Forrest Barnes.
A 1924 graduate of Williams High School, she received a bachelor's degree from Indiana State University in 1938. She taught art 43 years in Lawrence County schools: Spice Valley and Shawswick Townships, Burris and Mitchell. She retired in 1970 from Mitchell High School and taught art classes at Northwood College in West Baden Springs from 1971-72. She was a member of the Mitchell Church of Christ, a charter member of Omicron Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a member of Mu Chapter of Kappa Dappa Sigma Sorority, serving as the Grand President of the sorority in 1943. Other memberships include Order of Eastern Star, Indiana State Teachers Association, Lawrence County Retired Teachers Association, and the Lawrence County Art Association.

Gilson - Gretna L. Gilson of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, September 21, 2003, at her residence. Born on October 17, 1932, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Claudie J. and Gerti (Ray) Hillenburg. She married Robert F. Gilson on October 25, 1952, and he survives.
Surviving with her husband are one son, Mark E. Gilson of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Sharon L. Neff of Louisville, KY, and Vickie S. Melvin of Lebanon, IN; two brothers, Robert Hillenburg of Oolitic, IN, and Claude Hillenburg of Heltonville, IN; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
She was formerly employed at M.Fine & Sons of Bedford and retired from Dunn Memorial Hospital, where she worked in housekeeping. She was a member of the Southland Church of Christ.

Shoults - Marvin Eugene Shoults of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, September 21, 2003, at his residence. Born on May 10, 1925, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Walter and lula (Turney) Shoults. He married Allie Brown on April 8, 1944, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are three daughters: Elaine Raeburn of Escondido, CA, Brenda Stalker of McMinnville, TN, and Patti Austin of Mitchell, IN; two brothers, Norman Shoults of Indianapolis, IN, and Johnny Shoults of Marion, IN; one sister, Betty Blackerby of Mitchell, IN; one sister-in-law, Ruth Sorrells of Bedford, IN; and six grandchildren: Joe George, Dean George, Terri George, Jason Stalker, Lori Lee and Damon Austin. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Crystal Shoults and Roberta Green.
He retired from Lehigh Cement Company of Mitchell in 1985 and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Huron Church of God, Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228, F&AM, Spring Mill F.O.P. Lodge, past commander of Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107, Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250, past-president of Local No. 30 AFL-CIO.

Fults - Virginia Ruth Fultz of Bedford, IN, died Friday, September 19, 2003, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on July 1, 1920, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Oran E. and Jewell (Foster) Root. She married Ralph R. Fultz on July 9, 1938, and he died June 15, 2002.
Surviving are one daughter, Kathleen Davis and her husband, Bob, of Bedford, IN; two sons, Scott Fultz and his wife, Barbara, and Steve Fultz, all of Bedford, IN; four grandchildren: Noelle Jean and her husband Ross, Janell Deckard and her husband Carey, all of Bedford, IN, Stacey Thacker and her husband Kent of Noblesville, IN, and Michael Davis and his wife Kathy of Bloomington, IN; and five great-grandchildren.
She was the former secretary and bookkeeper of Fultz Auto of Bedford. She was a member of White River Baptist Church, Elks Auxiliary, and a life member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Spencer - Ruth Juanita Spencer of Bedford, IN, formerly of Richmond, IN, died Saturday, September 20, 2003, at the Hospitality House. Born on March 14, 1911 in Roanoke , Allen County, she was the daughter of Roscoe and Bessie Dennis. She married Lester G. Spencer on August 29, 1931, in Columbia City, IN, and he died on July 14, 1997.
Surviving are two sons, Dean Spencer of Bedford, IN, and Jeffery A. Spencer of Chilicothe, OH; one sister, Garnet Stevens of Sacramento, CA; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Christ Presbyterian Church in Largo, FL, and she was active in the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

Vergon - Edna M. Vergon of Bedford, IN, died Friday, September 19, 2003, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on February 18, 1920, in Wabash, IN, she was the daughter of High O. and Lena (Dickson) Gable. She married Glen J. Vergon and he died on September 14, 1999.
Surviving are two daughters, Tamera A. Moore and Cheryle D. Willis; one son, Gary O. Vergon; two sisters, Dorothy Booth and Loraine Guthrie; four grandchildren: Carrie, Glenn, Brock, and Serena; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Ralph Gable.
She was a homemaker.

Lytton - Lewis G. "Jerry" Lytton of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, September 18, 2003, at Westview Manor Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on March 29, 1915, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of Jordan Volney and Pearl Lytton. He married Mary J. Henderson on July 16, 1936, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Jeffery J. Lytton and his wife, Bernie, of Bedford, IN, and L. Bradley Lytton and his wife, Hope, of Peachtree City, BA; three grandchildren: Jeffery S. Lytton of Bedford, IN, Jonathon J. Lytton and his wife, Cale, of Ellettsville, IN, and Jordan H. Lytton of Peachtree, GA; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Vera, in infancy.
He was co-owner of the Toggery with his brother-in-law, Lovell Harp, and later was co-owner of Colonial Securities. A veteran of World War II, he was a Naval Aviator instructing pilots at Bunker Hill and Norman, OK, and also instructed pilot trainees in England. He was a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church, a life member of the Bedford Lodge No. 14 F&Am, life member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, past president of the Lawrence County Scottish Rite Club, life member of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33, and a Men's Club at Otis Park.
Service for Lewis Lytton will be at 11 a.m. Monday, September 22nd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Gary Cornwell officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Miller - Richard Miller of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, September 18, 2003, at his residence. Born on January 10, 1930, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Walter and Josie (Tolbert) Miller. He married Vivian J. Beasley on October 25, 1958, in Lawrence County, IN, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Richard Miller, Jr. of Williams and Michael Miller of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Tammy Vaughn and her husband, Jack, of Bedford, IN; one sister, Anna Sullivan and her husband, Joe, of Bedford, IN; one brother, Raymond Miller of Anderson, IN; four grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Glendale Miller; one sister, Ester; and one daughter, Teresa Kay Miller.
He retired from Railroad Milwaukee--now the Sioux Line and former CSX. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.

Gassaway - Ralph Grant Gassaway of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, September 17, 2003, at his resident. Born on June 13, 1933, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of John and Dora (Tolliver) Gassaway. He married Evabelle McGill on November 7, 1970, and she died June 17, 1986.
Surviving are a niece, Phyllis Gassaway, with whom he has resided for the last 17 years of his life; Eugene and Bonnie Watson, Johnny and Juanita Watson, Russell and Brenda Watson, Leroy and Glenda Mason, Laura Hutchinson, Pam and Bobby Harper, Misty and Curt Staley, Jason and Lena Gassaway, Tricia Harper, Bobbie Jo Lake, Jerri Renee Lake, Steve and Penny Louden, Steve and Charity Louden, Tanalee Louden, Jeremy Eisele, and Deana Lindenschmidt and their families; and many more nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Mabel Watson and her husband, Sam, who raised him after his parents died, and Dorothy Libby; three brothers: Barney Gassaway and his wife, Josephine, Lambert Gassaway and his wife Dotty, and Raymond Gassaway; and three nephews: Leo Alvin Gassaway, Danny Watson, and Leroy Sykes.
He retired from the City of Bedford Street Department and had also worked at J.B. Salvage in Bloomington and as a construction worker for Pierce Construction. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Moose Lodge, and Bedford Boat and Sportsman's Club.

Allen - Florence Pearl Allen of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, September 16, 2003, at Mitchell Manor Nursing Center. She was the daughter of Samuel and Ida Pearl (Hutslar) Hankins. She first Married Aden York on February 13, 1941, and he died July 8, 1983. She married Harry S. Allen on April 4, 1986, and he died January 30, 1999.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews and seven step-children. She was preceded in death by both husbands, three sisters: Mary Acton, Lovella Johnson, and Hannah Duncan; and one brother, William Hankins.
She was a homemaker and member of the Church of the Nazarene in Mitchell.

Dorothy Marie McCameron of Ruskin, FL, formerly of Mitchell and Greencastle, IN, died Tuesday, September 16, 2003, at the Health Center in Plant City, FL. Born on August 6, 1908, in Huron, IN, she was the daughter of Alfred and Onie Elizabeth (Trinkle) Johnson. She married Park W. McCameron on July 27, 1929, and he died November 15, 1976.Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Sue Sager of Falida, CO; one daughter-in-law, Margie McCameron of Lakeland, FL; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and four nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Donald W. McCameron; and three brothers: Oscar, Eldie, and Roy Johnson.
She was a retired secretary at the J.C. Penney Company and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Williams - Kenneth M. Williams of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, September 14, 2003, at his residence. Born on August 3, 1941, in Forth Ritner (Lawrence County), IN, he was the son of Melvin E. and Katherine L. (Flinn) Williams. He married Rita Perry on July 10, 2001, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are his mother, Katherine Williams of Bedford, IN; three sons: Kevin Williams of Bloomington, IN, Mike Williams and his wife, Lisa, of Mitchell, IN, and Kody Williams and his wife, Dee, of Springville, IN; one step-daughter, Sarah Miles of Bedford, IN; one brother, Ronald Williams of Bedford, IN; and two grandchildren, Lindsey and Kaden Williams, both of Mitchell, IN; He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Williams on June 23, 2000.
He was the owner/operator of Lawrence County Hydraulics and retired in 2001. He was a member of the Tunnelton United Methodist Church and the Leesville Masonic Lodge.

Born on August 24, 1930, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Earl and Ida Pauline (Childers) Cooper. She first married Herbert Grissom on October 9, 1948, and he died August 17, 1980. She married Noble Pruett on April 7, 1984, and he survives.
Surviving with her husband are three sons: Steve Grissom of Mitchell, IN, Mark and Dave Grissom, both of Bedford, IN; eight daughters: Vicky King of Mitchell, IN, Annie Buechler and Paula Arnold, both of Bedford, IN, Shirley Ann Miller and Barbara Dean, both of Polk City, FL, Marilyn McClure of Mitchell, IN, Carolyn Sue Knauss of Iuka, IL, and Sharon Ball of Bloomington, IN; one brother, Jack Cooper of Indianapolis, IN; one sister, Delores (Winkie) Gratzer of Mitchell, IN; thirty-seven grandchildren, and forty-three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert Grissom; one son, Norman Eugene Pruett; one daughter, Rosemary Pruett; and one brother, Earl Joe Cooper.
She was retired from South Lawrence Utilities and was a member of Church of the Nazarene in Mitchell.

Rishforth - James D. Rishforth II of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, September 10, 2003, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on August 30, 1982, he was the son of James D. and Patricia Rishforth.
Surviving are his father James D. Rishforth of Richamond, IN; his mother, Patricia Rishforth of Miamisburg, OH; three sisters: Shannon Rishforth of Miamisburg, OH, Kelli Rishforth and Jamie Rishforth, both of Bedford, IN; three half-brothers: Braxton Rishforth of Richmond, Mathew Smith and Cory Rishforth, both of Miamisburg, OH; former step-mother, Glenna Lakes Rishforth of Richmond, IN; one step-brother, Ricky Stoner of West Alexandria, OH; and his maternal grandmother.
He was a welder and landscaper for McCulough Fabricating and Stone City Iron Works.

Van Hoy - Addie Van Hoy, of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, September 9, 2003, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on February 27, 1916, in Marion County, IN, she was the daughter of Robert and Della (Wildman) Walton. She married Hugh Van Hoy on August 8, 1936, and he died May 9, 1993.
Surviving are two sons, Bob Van Hoy and Rick Van Hoy, both of Mitchell, IN; two daughters, Alice Isom and Marilyn Ray, both of Mitchell, IN; nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Talford Walton and Garrison Walton; two sisters, Reva Ledgerwood and Lorena Schnarr; and two grandchildren, Whitney Van Hoy and Scott Van Hoy.
She and her husband founded Van Hoy Heating and Plumbing in 1969, and she spent many years as a nurse's aide at Bloomington Hospital of Orange County. She was a member of the First Church of God in Bedford.

Swigart - Edith Catherine Swigart of Bedford, IN, died on Saturday, September 6, 2003, at her residence. Born on January 19, 1917, in East Oolitic, IN, she was the daughter of Elmer "Frank" and Ressie (Honeycutt) Goodman.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty White-Allen and her husband, John, of Heltonville, IN, and Sara William and her husband, Ben J., of Cary NC; two sisters, Louise Jenkins of Williams, IN, and Alice Naylor in Indianapolis; six grandchildren: Suzanne Burns and her husband, Steve, Dina Wood, Gina Smith and her husband, Tracey, and Lindley White, all of Heltonville, IN, Laura Williams of Cary, NC, and Eric Williams and his wife, Joanne, of Tuscaloosa, AL; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers: Ray, Earl, Eugene, Lloyd, and Robert Goodman; and one sister, Dorothy Todd.
She retired as a group leader at RCA in Bloomington after more than forty years. She was a member of the First Church of God in Bedford, where she was a long-time historian for the WCG, a member of the Builders Sunday School Class and a charter member of the Tuesday morning Bible study group. She wsa active in the RCA retirees group and volunteered at the Salvation Army for many years.

Born on November 16, 1917, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Oscar and Elizabeth (Rich) Anderson. He married Darlene McDonald on September 20, 1940, in Lawrence County, IN, and she died on October 1, 1984.
Surviving are one son, Terry Anderson and his wife, Ginger, of Danville, IN; one grandson, Tim Strunk of Bedford, IN; one brother, Wayne Anderson of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Mary Smith and Clara Bartley, both of Bedford, IN; two granddaughters, Amanda Anderson of Danville, IN, and Becky Pruett of Herron, IN; four great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane, where he had served in the Fleet Logistics Support department. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Bedford Lodge 14 F&AM, past scout master of Troop 39 of the Baptist Church, and had received the Silver Beaver award for scouting.
