Cantaloupes
Cantaloupes thrive in the hot drier weather we are having now. However, the flavor is affected by the certain trace elements in the soil. According to a recent report Kentuckiana soil may lack two of these elements--boron and magnesium. To produce sweeter cantaloupe, spray the vines when they begin to "run" with a mixture of 2 T Epsom salt and 1 T Boric Acid Powder (17-1/2 % Boron) in 1 gallon of water. When the first fruits are about 1 1/2" in diameter spray the vines again with 2 T refined Borax in 1 gallon of water.
