Don Deckard

Sept. 6, 1939 — Aug. 30, 2014

Loniel Don Deckard, 74, Bedford, went to be with Jesus on Saturday evening, unexpectedly.

Born Sept. 6, 1939, he was the son of Wayne and Lavonia (Phillips) Deckard. He married Betty Arthur on July 11, 1964, and she survives.

He was a graduate of Smithville High School.

He retired on Feb. 28, 1993 from Central Foundry where he was a fork lift operator for over 28 years.

He is of the Pentecost Faith and attended The Blackwell Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; one daughter, Treva Sommers and husband Ray of Fort Worth, Texas; one son, Troy Deckard and fiancé Wendy Hedrick and her daughter Kyla of Bedford; one granddaughter, Nicki Sommers; two sisters, Shirley Sowder and husband Farrell of Bedford and June Hammond and husband Marvin of Bedford; one niece, Cami Terry and husband Mike; and two nephews, Doug Sowder and wife Lisa and Jeff Hall and wife Toni.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; one brother in infancy, Marvin Dean Deckard; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Hall.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary in Bedford with Pastor Darren Bowlen and the Rev. Darren May officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 10 a.m. until the service on Wednesday.

C.R. Miracle

Aug. 27, 1935 — Aug. 26, 2014

C.R. Miracle, 78, Mitchell, passed away at 6 a.m. on Aug. 26 at his residence.

Born Aug. 27, 1935, in Stanford, Ky., he was the son of Henry Robert and Mayme Ross (Stamper) Miracle. He married Patricia Joan Alexander Dec. 29, 1957.

He was a master electrician with Alexander Electric, and a dairy farmer.

C.R. graduated from Mitchell High School in 1953 and Purdue University in 1958 with scholastic honors, and was a member of Alpha Zeta. He enjoyed farming, fishing, gardening, repairing pocket watches, Martin watching, and anything John Deere.

He served as a 4-H Leader and was manager of Normandy Farm in Indianapolis.

He was a member of Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F&AM, past president of the Pike Township Farm Bureau, past president of the National Guernsey Cattle Club, and a former member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and Pike Township Fire Department Board of Directors.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church and served in the choir, and as a deacon and trustee.

C. R. was a U. S. Army veteran.

Surviving: wife, Patricia Miracle of Mitchell; children, Alexander R (Tracy) Miracle of Bloomington, Cynthia Dawn (Steven) Sipe of Lebanon, and Steven Ray (Brandy) Miracle of Springville; a sister, Phyllis (Oakleigh) Westfall of Bedford; a brother, Robert F. (Judy) Miracle of Bloomington; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

His parents preceded him in death.

Celebration of Life service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Reggie Clark officiating. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Coty D. Gilliland

April 28, 1986 — Aug. 27, 2014

Coty D. Gilliland was the beloved son of Autumn Gilliland (Michael Huitt) of Bedford and Rory Rush (Tracy Rush) of Clermont, Fla., and the late Carl Gilliland of Bloomington. He was the father of our amazingly precious eight-year-old son, Caleb Dylan Gilliland.

He had worked at the Tire Barn in Bloomington, Extreme Performance in Ellettsville and Indian Creek Stone Mill in Shoals.

He’s survived by sisters, Cory Gilliland (Chad Luttrell) of Bedford and Megan Rush of Clermont, Fla.; brothers, Justin Rush of Clermont, Fla., and Andy Gilliland of Indianapolis; nieces, Breanna, Katie, Emma and Lillyana; nephews, Julien and Jack; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He’s preceded in death most recently by sister, Carla Gilliland; and nephew, Parker Gilliland Wampler.

Viewing will be in Bedford at Day & Carter Mortuary from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, with family one hour prior. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Garrison Chapel Cemetery in Bloomington, by Brother Bruce Kelly.

Contributions to help with the families expenses can be made the day of services.

There will be an open house at Coty’s mother’s home from 4-6 p.m. following the service.

Catherine Houchin

April 6, 1926 — Aug. 28, 2014

Catherine Houchin, 88, Mitchell, passed away at 9:05 p.m. Thursday at the home of her daughter.

Born April 6, 1926, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary (Laga) Tripp.

Catherine retired from RCA and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Surviving are her children, Sharon Abbott of Leesburg, Fla., and Charles Houchin, Dorothy Wagner, Marlin Houchin, Kathy Cummings and Carol Hughes, all of Mitchell; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Her parents and siblings — George Tripp, Clifford Tripp, Anna Yagos, Frances Kalishek, Mary Mallory, Rose Clouse and Agnes Steigerwald — preceded her in death.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Rick Eldred and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Entombment will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center. A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m.
